Understanding the Old Testament

A while ago I shared a brief presentation by Dr. John Walton, professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College.

In this first video, Dr. Walton sits down with Dr. Erin Darby at a Veritas Forum at the University of Tennessee to discuss the topic, “Reading the Old Testament: The Ancient Origins and Authority of Scripture”.

Among the topics discussed:

Where to start with the question of origins
The distinction between “natural” and “supernatural”
    Descriptive and prescriptive texts
    Selectivity of the authors

In this second presentation, Dr. Walton discusses the intersection of science and the worldview of the biblical authors and how any contention is purely forced.

Both the discussion and the lecture are full of insights that believers need to hear so that believers won’t be defending things that don’t necessarily need to be defended.
