We all have these little rhetorical quotations, pithy statements of philosophical importance that have imparted wisdom or encouragement into our lives. They arrive at just the right time to give us something to hold onto, so I thought I might take this opportunity to share some of those quotations that have given me pause and allowed me to consider events in life.
“The unexamined life is not worth living. ” –Socrates
“It’s not that our liberal friends are ignorant, it’s that they know so much that isn’t so.”–Ronald Reagan
“Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils, they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.”
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.
–C. S. Lewis
Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
–Franklin D. Roosevelt
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
These are just a few of the words that have influenced my thinking. Tid-bits of wisdom, sincere insights that, if one thinks carefully, can give them great encouragement.
