Some words on the issue of EQUALITY

When we call men “equal”, what is meant? GK Chesterton, in his book “What I Saw in America”, made a brilliant observation on what it means, and I will summarize and expound his findings. It doesn’t mean that we are equally intelligent: some are just simply smarter than others. Or that we are equally clever: rather the opposite is true. We are not equally strong, equally motivated, or equally able. Equality is about VALUE: we all have the same value. We were created in the image of God and given the responsibility and duty of projecting that image onto our fellow man, but we would rather focus on ourselves in sinful exploits. So, our lives are now all equal in this fact: we are sinners, and Christ came to save sinful men, to “seek and save that which is lost (Luke 19:10).”

When we forget what liberty means, we stray into sin. When we stray into sin, we begin to exalt ourselves above others, forgetting the inherent equality that is intrinsically instilled in every man, woman, and child. Life becomes cheap and it exists only to serve us in our selfish desires. That is not why we must resist the chains of absolutism, which is the basis of all tyrannical institutions, we shook them off so that the true definitions of those two words could be put on display for the world to see. For when the true definitions of liberty and sin are forgotten, there can be no place where freedom can exist.
